(Capsule) Trade Show 2009
This past week I was lucky enough to volunteer at one of the premier menswear trade shows in New York City, The (Capsule) 2009 Trade Show. Hosted by the amazing PR agency BPMW, the show was alot of hard work to build and maintain, but the overall turn out was phenomenal! The 2 day trade show began on Sunday 7/19 with all the volunteers, managers and vendors reporting to the venue bright and early at 9am. The venue (Angel Orensanz Foundation) is a beautiful, Gothic-revival synagogue built in 1849 located on Manhattans Lower East Side. The sheer opulence and ancient feeling of the space, convinced me this was going to be a great show.

The team at BMPW were so cool, and surprisingly relaxed for such a huge event that they host three times a year. The Las Vegas, Paris, and New York Trade Shows are mega hits in the menswear industry, bringing hundreds of vendors, buyers and critics to catch a glimpse of the latest collections in men’s fashion. Over 50 vendors from all over the world represented their spring 2010 lines at the event, some of my favorites were Maiden Noir, Hot Air, Warriors of Radness and Gilded Age just to name a few. I was responsible for maintaining the second floor of the event with my pal Alisha Miele. We were mostly in charge of restocking the water, magazines and assisting the vendors. Working on the 2nd floor gave us a birds eye view of all 4 floors of the event, and of the many guest that flowed in to see the latest collections in accessories, shoes, clothing and even toy’s (shout out to Olivia at kidrobot!).

The overall event was very draining, but I was able to meet so many cool people! The design team of one of favorite labels, Public School, were absolutely hilarious and way cool, and they actually sat next to us on the second floor and was just chilling with us! How many people can say that?, and the cherry on top of such a great a show for me, was when Jim Moore (editor of GQ Magazine) attended to view the collections at the event. The Capsule 2009 Trade Show was definitely a successful showcase that brought vendors, buyers, stylist and many fashion individualist all together to view some of the freshest, and innovative talent in the fashion industry.
Thanks to the crew at BPMW, kidrobot, Street Etiquette, Public School, Maiden Noir, Hot Air and my 2nd floor partner-in-crime Alisha Miele!
