The Classy Daphne
“You are no longer a person, you have become a concept”
-Bernard-Henri Lévy
As my fascination with the incomparable Daphne Guinness continues to flourish, I was awe-struck by this editorial out of the pages of Vogue Italia’s October 2009 issue. The spread was called “The Classy Daphne” as was inspired by the 1961 french film “L’Année dernière à Marienbad” in english “Last Year at Marienbad” (see previous post) starring Delphine Seyrig, Giorgio Albertazzi, and Sacha Pitoëff. The film explores the relationship between a man and a woman in a château in Marienbad. The editorial that was shot is an almost exact replica of the film and is beautifully captured in my opinion. Daphne Guinness looks exactly like Delphine Seyrig and was probably the only person who could pull off this editorial, she can do no wrong in my eyes and she is very much so The Classy Daphne.
Without a doubt one of the most beautifully crafted fashion editorials I have ever see. The tense and stark nature of the spread is what makes it slightly off-center, but astonishing. Bravo
