Legendary

The King will be missed.  But haven’t you noticed the post op pictures are always displeasing?  Never have I seen a picture of “White” Michael that did him justice…until now.  Here’s a mixture (and my tribute) of artist interpretations commemorating who I consider the founder of modern music.

Butter

Butter 3So as you may or many not know by now, we at The Black Nouveau are very budget conscious. We take pride in looking for bargains, and praise finding good deals. Unfortunately we can slip up time to time, and dare I say it…SPLURGE! Case in point, my 20th birthday last year, my friend’s wanted me to have a memorable, and amazing bash. So naturally I wondered what places in New York were acceptable for a “college budget” and I actually found some great “budget conscious” places, from Pop Burger to Silom Thai. But one restaurant in particluar grabbed my attention, and I was convinced I must have my birthday dinner there….Butter Restaurant. I had remembered seeing it on a recent episode of “Kimora Life in The Fab Lane”  where Kimora Simmons threw her fashion show after party there during New York Fashion Week, and being the die-hard KLS fanatic that I am, I figured we MUST eat there too!

The setting was so magical, it only could have taken place in New York. The food was fabulous, from the soft shell crab, to the fillet migon, to the little cups of flavored butter, to my birthday gourmet “donut” that held a little candle to commemorate my big day. The vibe, space and service was absolutely amazing. Aside from the wallet paralyzing bill, the night was unforgettable, and speaking of birthdays, today is my big 21! Taking note from last year, I’m working with a more “suitable” birthday budget!

Venexiana Sample Sale Article

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on June 25, 2009 by James Field

This is an old article I wrote back in April for www.Thevoguecity.com reporting on the Venexiana Sample Sale. Enjoy!

Venexiana Sample Sale

335 West 35th St 8th Floor

4/24/09

The Venexiana label is one of my all time favs when it comes to high-level luxury, bold statements, and exquisite fabrics. Not to mention the designer Mrs. Kati Stern is so cool! So when I was informed that the label was having a sample sale, I was so there. Going to the sale on such a beautiful day seemed only right, sure I had to fight through the mobs of tourist’s to get over to the west side, but I told myself this is so going to be worth it. OK, so the sale its self may have looked slightly overwhelming but you have to stay focused, if you were in the market for trendy leather jackets, floaty silk rock & roll tops, and out of this world tweed pants, this was the sale for you. The pieces were from past collections, and the craftsmanship and vision of Mrs Stern is so futuristic, the clothing seemed almost ageless! But if you were looking for subtle and simple….NO! the pieces are total wardrobe collectors items, I mean they were couture for Pete’s sake!

Venexiana

The sale was truly beyond FAB! Featuring past seasons collection items from editorial shoots, and runway shows. Everything was under $100! I mean leather jackets for $60, and chiffon tops for $40, and if you had the stamina to search through everything you may just find a fur bomber jacket…this sale had everything that you could possibly want all in one showroom.

Venexiana

Did I mention the fur?…I love Venexiana and next time they have a sample sale, of course you’ll be the first to know, but I will not rest until I find something even slightly masculine to buy for myself! The dress above was one of my absolute favorites, priced at $80.

Ivy League Prep

Preppy 1The return of the preppy look has had a strong  revival in the new year. The once “Ralph Lauren-esque” look of privileged Ivy League rich kids, has had a revamping in 2009. Oxfords in new, modern shapes and colors, knit striped socks (Happy Socks Post), fitted woven shirts and of course Boat shoes, all have begun to creep there way back into our closets. Most reserve the look for the snooty “New England” types, but new twists and greater imaginations, have transformed this once elite trend into a mainstream cult classic. Myself included, will admit to adopting the look, fitted slacks, nautical pattern ties, knitted socks, cardigans with crest logo’s and khaki shorts, are all stock piled in my wardrobe arsenal. The look is a classic, which helps unleash your inner poindexter.
